Job Title: Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager (R&D)

Salary: Up to £50,000 or €59,000 | depending on experience and qualifications

Location: Manchester or Dublin – office-based

Reporting to: Associate Director

Due to expansion, CBTax is on the hunt for a number of Tax Managers to join our Manchester & Dublin teams to support our continued growth. Our team is the backbone of our success, and as a Manager, you will be responsible for the development of new business opportunities, take responsibility for innovative client delivery and excel in leadership, whilst managing projects and work streams for client delivery. You’ll work closely with the Associates, Assistant Manager, Senior Managers and Associate Director to successfully deliver work and grow the business.

A day in the life of a Tax Manager at CBTax:

As a manager at CBTax, you’ll prepare government incentive claims and draft detailed technical reports to support the R&D projects included in these claims.

You’ll coordinate and liaise with clients, colleagues, and HMRC to ensure that claims are optimised and deadlines are consistently met. Your attention to detail will be crucial as you prepare HMRC submission documents that underpin the R&D claims.

Throughout the day, you will manage a portfolio of clients, overseeing project delivery to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders will be key, as you engage with them to ensure their needs are met and expectations exceeded.

In addition to client management, you will respond to HMRC queries and liaise on behalf of clients regarding their R&D claims. Your expertise will be invaluable as you offer advice on tax technical points, guiding both clients and internal stakeholders with your knowledge and insights.

Supervising junior team members will be a significant part of your role, as you provide mentorship and support to help them grow professionally. You will also keep senior stakeholders updated on project progress, ensuring clear and consistent communication within the team.

Identifying and pursuing new business development opportunities will be an exciting challenge, as you leverage your industry knowledge and connections to expand the company’s reach. Collaboration will be at the heart of your work, as you contribute to a strong, team-oriented environment.

To be considered for the role:

To be successful in this role, you should be ATT/CTA part qualified and ideally have experience in R&D. We are looking for someone who is organized, hard-working, and ambitious, with a passion for best practices. This role is perfect for individuals who are keen to develop their management skills in a dynamic environment.

We are eager to hear from proactive individuals who can manage tasks independently while also collaborating effectively with Senior Managers, Directors, and Clients.

Key qualifications and skills include a strong understanding of the UK’s R&D tax credits and the ability to handle multiple live projects concurrently, effectively managing your workload. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will serve as the main point of contact for managed projects with various stakeholders. You should also have the ability to coach and delegate, supporting the growth of technical expertise and soft skills within the team.
